How to apply for finance after your first year

You must submit a separate student finance application for every year you are in higher education.

Student Finance Direct will automatically send you information about how to apply for the new academic year, so ensure that you keep them up to date with your contact details.

If you do not receive your paperwork, contact Student Finance Direct and ask for a replacement form to be sent to you.

Unlike the first time you applied, you will not have to submit further documentary evidence, unless there has been a change to your circumstances - for example, to your household income or your marital status.

Online applications

If you are a full-time student you can save time by applying for your student loan and other finance online. All the relevant information from your previous application will be available online, even if you previously applied on paper.

You can also apply for additional support, such as disability or childcare related help, on paper.

Applications for the 2006/2007 Year

It is not too late to apply for finance for the 2006/2007 academic year.

You can submit your application for student finance up to nine months after the first day of your course.

Apply online, or by downloading application form PR1.

Part Time Students

If you are studying part time, you must apply for financial help for every year of year course.

To do this, complete the application form for part-time student finance (PTG1) and take it to your university or college when you start your course.

The college administration office will complete the rest of the form. You should then send it to your local authority.

If your Circumstances Change

Changes to your circumstances while you are studying could affect how much financial help you get.

You must let your local authority know as soon as possible if:

·        your marital or financial status changes

·        you change your course or institution

·        you repeat or defer a year of your course

·        you leave your course early
